Julia has a longstanding concern for wildlife conservation. Her focus is particularly, but not exclusively, on the marine environment. She is a postgraduate student in the School of Tropical Environment Studies and Geography at JCU, currently in the early stages of a research project to investigate interactions between vessels and sea turtles. The project's larger aim is to contribute to a scientific basis for mitigating the problem of turtles, all threatened species, being struck and killed by vessels.
