Richard Davis

Richard Davis
Anthropology and Sociology
University of Western Australia

Richard Davis is Lecturer in Anthropology at the University of Western
Australia. He has published numerous articles on Indigenous Australian
social and cultural life and is editor and contributor to Woven Histories,
Dancing Lives: Torres Strait Islander Identity, Culture and History

(Aboriginal Studies Press) and co-editor and contributor to The Power of
Knowledge and the Resonance of Tradition
(Aboriginal Studies Press) and
Dislocating the Frontier: Essaying the Mystique of the Outback (ANUPress).
Richard has worked with Torres Strait Islander peoples on their native title
claims to land and seas and has worked with Aboriginal peoples on their
pastoral properties in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. He is
particularly interested in performance and novelty in emergent forms of
Indigenous Australian social and cultural life.
