The Animals and Society (Australia) Study Group brings together Australian-based scholars working in a variety of disciplines to better understand the roles and meanings attributed to non-human animals in human societies. This website is a meeting point providing information about existing scholarship and networks, and a forum for identifying future themes of discussion, coursework and research. The group is part of ongoing initiatives to develop national, cross-disciplinary research programs on Environment and Society based at the University of Western Australia. Check our A&S Forum page for the latest news on Animal Studies conferences, calls for papers and publications. We also have a useful Links page. The website has been launched for Minding Animals: The 2009 International Academic and Community Conference on Animals and Society, the third conference of the Animals & Society (Australia) Study Group. It will be hosted by the University of Newcastle and take place at the Newcastle Civic Precinct, New South Wales, from 13-19 July 2009. |
